Ethereum Co-Founder Transfers $262M in ETH—But Is It a Sale or Just a Shuffle?
Jeffrey Wilcke moves 105,736 ETH to Kraken, sparking speculation about potential sales or strategic wallet management

On May 20, 2025, Ethereum co-founder Jeffrey Wilcke transferred 105,736 ETH—valued at approximately $262 million—to the Kraken exchange. This significant movement has raised questions within the crypto community about whether Wilcke intends to liquidate his holdings or is merely reorganizing his assets.
Following the transfer, on-chain analysis revealed that the same amount of ETH was withdrawn from Kraken into 12 newly created wallets. This pattern suggests that Wilcke might not be planning an immediate sale but could be distributing his assets across multiple wallets for strategic reasons, such as enhancing security or managing risk.
Historically, Wilcke has made substantial ETH transfers to exchanges. In November 2024, he moved 20,000 ETH (worth over $72 million at the time) to Kraken, contributing to a total of 44,300 ETH liquidated that year.
Despite the magnitude of the recent transfer, Ethereum’s price remained relatively stable, indicating that the market did not perceive this move as a significant sell-off.
As of now, Ethereum (ETH) is trading at $2,480.88, reflecting a modest increase of 0.87% over the past 24 hours.
